Almuñécar (pron. Al-moo-nyeh-ka) is a small Andalucian coastal town ideally situated just under an hours drive from Malaga Airport, and about an hours drive from the smaller airport at Granada, used by some cheap flight airlines (Ryanair being one example).
There are seven separate beaches along Almuñécar's front, and the town is backed by hills and mountains.
The original white-washed village is very distinct, sitting atop a small hill and dominated by the Castilla San Miguel (St.Michael's castle). There is a very strong history to the area, with Roman ruins still very visible around the town.
Almuñécar sits on a 10 mile strip of coastline called the Costa Tropical; so called because of the sub-tropical micro climate that this area boasts - around 330 sunny days each year, and temperatures rarely dropping below 10C even in 'winter'!
The town has not been over-developed as many areas have, yet Almuñécar does have a very bright future - with plans for a golf course and marina.
There are several high quality hotels in town, and countless tapas bars. The Province of Granada is renowned for its generous tapas, and Almuñécar is no exception; don't expect the usual tapa of stale bread and dried ham here, instead you can look forward to free plates of fresh seafood, meat, vegetables and fried food when you order a drink!
In fact, some tapas bars will give you so much free food that you don't need to look at a menu!
The popular Marina del Este is 5 minutes to the west, while the port of Motril is 15 minutes east.
The ski-resort of Sierra Nevada is just 2 hours drive away, Granada city and its famous Alhambra Palace is under an hour.
A new motorway is currently being built which will greatly decrease journey times to both Malaga and Granada.
All activities associated with a coastal town are available; windsurfing, canoeing, kite-surfing, snorkelling & scuba, paragliding, hiking... There are several schools for water and air-based sports in the town, with English speaking instructors.
A property in Almuñécar is an excellent longer-term investment given the town's future.
Either as a place to holiday or permanent residence, the town has everything going for it - the weather, the laid-back lifestyle, great places to wine & dine, friendly locals and excellent location.
